Former Marakwet East MP Jebii Kilimo has formally moved to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), declaring her intention to support President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
She said her choice came after consulting widely with family and political allies and reflected her commitment to leadership that prioritises development and unity.
Speaking during a UDA gathering in Eldoret on Monday, Kilimo said she felt the party’s values and policies closely matched her own vision for the country.
“I have made this decision after extensive consultations with my family and supporters. I am excited to join a party that shares my leadership values and ambitions,” she said.
Kilimo praised the President for promoting stability in the Kerio Valley and credited his administration with improving security and economic opportunities in the region.
“With great humility and after deep reflection, I affirm my decision to join UDA,” she said. “Today, I feel the same way I did when I first took the oath as a minister at State House. This decision follows soul-searching and a desire to contribute to the leadership of my people and our country.”
She said her experience in politics would help rally support for Ruto across the Rift Valley and other regions. “As an experienced politician, I will mobilise support across the Rift Valley and beyond to ensure President Ruto secures a second term,” she added.
Kilimo also highlighted UDA’s efforts in women’s empowerment and affordable housing, noting that these programmes had positively transformed the lives of ordinary citizens.
Welcoming her entry into UDA, Secretary-General Hassan Omar said Kilimo’s move would strengthen the party’s presence in the Rift Valley. He urged other leaders to follow her example, singling out Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
“I call upon other leaders across the country to emulate her,” Omar said. “Governor Natembeya should join Kenya Kwanza and work with the President for the benefit of the Mulembe Nation.”
Omar criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of pursuing narrow tribal interests. “Those following Gachagua are heading towards destruction. He is a tribal leader focused only on the Mt Kenya region,” he said, adding that Kenya Kwanza prioritises inclusive development and national cohesion.
