Kenya Roads Board chairperson Aisha Jumwa has aligned herself with leaders from Tana River County in opposing the proposed extension of Garissa County’s boundary into Tana River territory.

Speaking as the guest of honor at a thanksgiving event for former Tana River Woman Representative and Kengen Director Rehema Hassan held at Mikinduni Village in Hola, Jumwa urged the residents and leaders of Tana River to protect their existing borders and resist any attempts to alter them.

The former Gender Cabinet Secretary emphasized that the boundaries are well established and recognized by both counties, and it would be unjust for Tana River communities to be pushed out of their ancestral lands by neighboring counties.

At the gathering, Hassan questioned why certain Garissa leaders were attempting to stir conflict over a boundary that dates back to precolonial times and has long been accepted.

She also criticized some cabinet secretaries for allegedly misleading President William Ruto on the land dispute, describing their actions as misguided.

Rehema Hassan reassured residents that the boundary between Garissa and Tana River counties would remain unchanged, noting that previous administrations—from Moi to Kenyatta—had respected the existing borders.

Galole MP Said Hiribae criticized Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen for sidelining Tana River leadership by issuing directives to residents without proper consultation.

He emphasized that Tana River leaders stand united and will not allow any part of their county to be taken over by Garissa.
