Chief government pathologist, Johansen Oduor, has revealed that lawyer Kyalo Mbobu died from excessive bleeding and severe injuries after being shot eight times.
Speaking on Thursday after conducting a post-mortem examination on the body of the slain lawyer, Oduor said the pathologists present recovered two bullets that were lodged in Mbobu’s chest below the arm.
“His spine was severely injured, and most of the bullets had entry and exit apart from the two bullets we have recovered. We can say he died from severe bleeding,” Oduor said.
The pathologist also said some of the bullets were directed at Mbobu's neck.
Dr. Oduor was in the company of other family pathologists, police and Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo.
According to police, Mbobu was ambushed around 5:30 pm while driving alone to his home in Bogani, Karen. He was shot at close range through the window of his four-wheel-drive vehicle, which was stuck in traffic near Brookhouse School.
The assailant, armed with a pistol, walked up to the driver’s side and opened fire, hitting the lawyer at least three times in the chin and head.
After the shooting, Mbobu’s car lurched forward and collided with a matatu as nearby passengers scrambled for cover.
Police recovered three spent cartridges at the scene.
Nothing was stolen from the vehicle, reinforcing suspicions that the killing was a carefully planned hit.
Security footage reviewed by investigators shows the shooter and his motorcycle rider trailing Mbobu’s car from Galleria Mall before executing the attack.
The gunman, after carrying out the shooting, quickly ran back to the waiting motorcycle.
