18 Al-Shabaab militants killed in Lower Shabelle by Somali and Uganda forces

Eighteen Al-Shabaab militants were killed early Friday morning after Somali and Ugandan troops under the AUSSOM mission repulsed a terrorist attack in the Sabiib and Canoole areas of Lower Shabelle.
According to Somalia’s Defence Ministry, the joint operation by the Somali National Army (SNA) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) began around 6:20 am when the militants attempted to storm the area.
The troops, who were alert and well-prepared, acted swiftly to block the militants’ advance. In the exchange of fire, national forces overpowered the attackers and inflicted heavy losses.
“During the fierce confrontation, 18 members of the terrorist group were killed,” the statement noted. The pursuit of the fleeing militants is still ongoing.

“The Ministry also acknowledges and appreciates the vital support provided by our international partners through aerial strikes that inflicted heavy damage on Al-Shabaab militants.”
In conclusion, the Ministry reaffirmed the government’s strong position against terrorism, vowing continued efforts to eliminate threats and restore lasting peace.
