Basketball star Stephen Curry has launched his own energy drink, looking to tap into his popularity to own a stake in the drinks business.

Golden State Warriors Star Curry, 37, has partnered with American drink brand Plezi and former US first lady Michelle Obama to come up with the drink.

The drink is referred to as PLEZi Hydration, which is a collection of hydrating sports drinks that are packed with electrolytes without any added sugar.

The four-time NBA champion calls this new product “a game-changing hydration beverage” and he has tapped Michelle who has her own major following the world over, to popularize the new drink.

"We’ve created something with smart ingredients and unbeatable flavor, so people can fuel their bodies the right way," Curry says in a release.

"No nonsense, no shortcuts, because the next generation deserves better," he was quoted on the official Plezi website.

The PLEZi Hydration drinks include electrolytes like potassium and sodium to help support muscle growth and keep one hydrated through a workout.

There’s also no added sugar (only natural sugar from fruit juice) and 100% of your recommended daily value of vitamin C in each drink, the company says.

The new sports drinks come in three flavors: Tropical Punch, Orange Mango Twist, and Lemon Lime.

Curry is not new to business investment.

He already has his own projects such as Unanimous Media, a production company, and he has invested in companies such as Tonal and Gentleman's Cut Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, as well as his own brand, Curry Brand.

Curry is a four-time NBA champion.

He has also won the Most Valuable player award on two different occasions.

He has played in the NBA for 16 years, all of which he had featured for Golden State.
