In what has been an immensely successful first season in charge for Liverpool head coach Arne Slot in many regards, this week's UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of French side PSG was a rare low point.

Slot's first season in charge at Anfield has been nothing short of spectacular for the most part.

They currently have a double-digit lead in the league and finished top of the Champions League group stages. They are also in the Carabao Cup Final.

However, following a bitter loss on penalties to the Parisians, a dreadful scenario has emerged.

A loss to Newcastle in today's final at Wembley would make it a week to forget and Slot does not want to imagine a scenario where they face two losses of a huge magnitude both in the same week.

"You play games like this to win it, and that's what we're going to try to do," Slot told Liverpool's Fc.Com.

The defending Carabao champions will be without injured right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold who was injured in the first half of the loss to PSG.

"We're really looking forward to it because you cannot take a final for granted, especially not in this country with so many good teams," Slot explained.

Slot, who will be making his first-ever visit to Wembley, hopes Liverpool can recover quickly from having their treble bid shattered by PSG.

"It's a great occasion to be in, especially after losing against Paris Saint-Germain. It's maybe the perfect game," he added.

Newcastle know a win will represent their first trophy since 1969 and their head coach Eddie Howe is ecstatic and looking forward to their appearance in the final.

Newcastle took Arsenal apart with ease in their Semifinal and Howe is confident his side will show up.

"We proved against Arsenal that we are capable of beating any team on our day," he told Newcastle United's official website.

"We have not won a trophy in a long time and this is a chance to have one."

This season the two sides have met in the Premier League this season already, with Liverpool coming out on top 2-0 in February.

Kick-off is at 19.30 Hrs local time.
