In Summary

The visit, which comes at the invitation of the U.S. government, marks the first significant diplomatic engagement between Nairobi and Washington.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, is currently in Washington, D.C., for a series of high-level bilateral meetings aimed at reinforcing the enduring partnership between Kenya and the United States.

The visit, which comes at the invitation of the U.S. government, marks the first significant diplomatic engagement between Nairobi and Washington since the re-election of President Donald Trump.

Dr. Mudavadi is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday. The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as security, trade, and investment.

On trade matters, Mudavadi is expected to advocate for the strengthening of economic relations, particularly the extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and measures to attract more American investments into Kenya.

His itinerary also includes a meeting with Hon. Brian Mast, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as engagements with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC).

Additionally, he will participate in a business roundtable with American investors hosted at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

This high-profile visit follows the landmark State Visit by President William Ruto in May 2024—the first by an African head of state to the U.S. since 2008.
