The government has announced plans to operationalize all newly created administrative units, including three sub-counties in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, as part of a wider strategy to enhance public service delivery.

Principal Secretary for Internal Security, Dr. Raymond Omollo, said the new sub-counties Kabras East, Chemuche, and Kabras West will bring Kakamega’s total to 15. The units were gazetted a year ago but have yet to be made functional.

Speaking at Tande Secondary School o 10th Aug 2025 during an event officiated by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi, Dr. Omollo said the rollout is part of a broader national plan to establish 1,105 new administrative units, including divisions, locations, and sub-locations, in the 2024/2025 financial year.

He also assured security personnel that the government is renewing leases for police vehicles and promised to allocate Kakamega County an additional patrol vehicle to strengthen security operations.

On the development front, Dr. Omollo praised the government’s affordable housing programme, saying it has created jobs, empowered Jua Kali artisans, and is helping address the housing deficit.

The initiative, he said, is improving living conditions for the 6–7 million Kenyans in informal settlements by providing access to clean water, electricity, and other essential amenities.

Highlighting progress in health coverage, the PS said membership in the Social Health Authority (SHA) has reached 25 million, significantly reducing the financial strain on salaried Kenyans. “You realise nowadays we have fewer cases of people adding you to WhatsApp groups to contribute towards medical bills.

You are more likely to be added to contribute towards funeral expenses,” he remarked, underscoring the programme’s impact on healthcare affordability.
