MP Ichung’wah apologizes to Nyandarua residents over Gachagua remarks

Ichung’wah appealed to Nyandarua residents to put aside political differences and unite in the spirit of development.
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has issued an apology to the people of Nyandarua over comments he made about former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
During a meeting with opinion leaders from Nyandarua County held at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s Karen residence on Tuesday, May 13, Ichung’wah acknowledged that his remarks may have offended some individuals.
While he has previously clashed with Gachagua on various matters, Ichung’wah appealed to Nyandarua residents to put aside political differences and unite in the spirit of development.
"I know there are some people who are not happy with what I'm saying, and I'm sorry. Have you forgiven me? The biggest betrayal is betraying people and their cause," he said.
"It’s always easiest for your leaders to secure re-election by feeding you comforting lies."
Gachagua enjoys deep-rooted political backing in Nyandarua County, a key part of the Mt Kenya region, where his support base is notably strong.
Historically, Nyandarua residents have aligned themselves with leaders from the larger Mt Kenya bloc, and Gachagua continues to wield considerable influence in the area.
Ichung’wah expressed gratitude for the platform, noting that it allowed him to speak freely—something not always possible at political rallies.
"Forgive me for taking time; I needed the opportunity to explain myself," he said.
"Forums like this are important for leaders like me to communicate clearly. If this were a rally, I’d probably have been interrupted with boos and jeers. But heckled or not, I’ll always speak the truth. I only ask that you stand behind your leaders."
His remarks stem from a recent incident on April 3, 2025, when he encountered a rowdy reception in Nyandarua County during President William Ruto’s tour of the region.
Ichung’wah had joined the head of state for the launch of the Last Mile Connectivity project in Ol Kalou Town, one of several development initiatives being rolled out in the Mt Kenya region.
