Patient dies by suicide in Homa Bay hospital restroom

A 38-year-old patient was found dead by suicide at the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.

The man reportedly took his own life by hanging himself in the hospital toilet while recovering during his stay.

Police reported that the man used his belt to take his own life.

Dr. Vincent Oduor, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, explained that the patient, who was being treated for tuberculosis, had been admitted to the isolation unit for medical care.

A caretaker discovered the deceased inside the hospital toilet and immediately alerted management.

Homa Bay Sub County Police Commander Emmanuel Kiplagat stated that initial investigations showed the patient had missed his TB medication prior to the incident.

The body was transferred to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

In Ruiru, Kiambu County, a 25-year-old woman was discovered dead in what is believed to be a suicide.

Police reported that Wendy Ongayo’s body was found hanging from a nylon rope tied to a curtain rod hanger.

She had visited a salon earlier on May 18 before returning home, where her body was later found.

Her boyfriend said they had left the house separately—she went to the salon while he attended to some errands.

When discovered, the woman was wearing a plastic bag over her head.

Police reported that a suicide note was discovered at the woman’s home. Her body was taken to the mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy and further investigations.

In another case, a 15-year-old boy in Loitoktok, Kajiado County, died by suicide outside his parents’ home. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the incident.

His body was found hanging from a tree near the family residence on May 16 and was transferred to the Loitoktok morgue for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Nyalenda, Kisumu County, 89-year-old Joachim Mugwang Ayimba was found dead inside his locked home.

A relative, concerned for his well-being, entered the house through a window after finding the door locked from the inside.

The deceased was discovered sitting on a chair, leaning forward over a table with his face downward.

Police who responded to the scene found the body seated on a chair, leaning forward on the table with his face down, and fluid coming from his mouth.

No visible physical injuries were observed.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. The body was transferred to Kisumu County Referral Hospital morgue, where it awaits an autopsy.
