Standard Media's TV, Radio stations go off-air over technical glitch

In a short statement released on Friday morning, the company cited a technical issue as the reason behind the outage that impacted a majority of its broadcast platforms.
The Standard Media Group has reported a temporary service interruption affecting several of its television and radio stations.
In a short statement released on Friday morning, the company cited a technical issue as the reason behind the outage that impacted a majority of its broadcast platforms.
Despite the hitch, the media group clarified that some of its key stations—KTN, Radio Maisha, Spice FM, and Berur FM—remain operational and continue to air as normal.
Following the incident, the media outlet noted that efforts were underway to rectify the outage, adding that engineers were already on the site working to address the matter.
The Standard Group has announced that its radio and television stations, including KTN, Radio Maisha, Spice FM, and Berur FM, are currently off air due to a technical issue.
However, the affected platforms remain accessible online as engineers work to resolve the problem.
Despite numerous inquiries from concerned viewers, the company has not provided specific details about the cause of the disruption.
This incident occurs at a time when the media house is grappling with major challenges, including alleged financial difficulties that have led to delayed salary payments and warnings from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) regarding possible licence suspension.
In April this year, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) issued a warning to Standard Media, threatening to revoke its broadcasting licence over outstanding fees totaling more than Sh43 million.
In a letter signed by CA Director General David Mugonyi, the regulator instructed the media house to clear the arrears or risk losing its licence.
