Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has affirmed that the Kenya Kwanza administration is staying true to the country's founding leaders' vision by prioritizing long-term national development over short-term political gains.

He pointed to the Affordable Housing Programs as a key initiative aimed at eliminating slums and informal settlements, helping to create a more equitable society.

Speaking on Saturday, Kindiki noted that the housing initiative mirrors strategies adopted by Southeast Asian nations decades ago, which contributed to their rapid development.

He said the program is a deliberate effort to reduce poverty, promote widespread homeownership, and improving Kenya stand-in on the global human development index.

The Deputy President stressed the need for Kenya to make tough, necessary choices, even if they are unpopular in the short term. He acknowledged the country's slow progress over the past six decades but maintained that meaningful change can still be achieved.

His remarks come in the wake of President William Ruto's commissioning of more than 10,000 affordable housing units in Mukuru, Embakasi South and Kibra in Nairobi.

The project, which continues despite opposition, is funded through a mandatory housing levy deducted from employees' salaries.
