Kenyan students shine at Huawei Global ICT Competition in China

Kenyan students were recognised for their outstanding performance, emerging as winners and runners-up in various categories.
Kenya’s teams achieved top honours at the recently concluded Huawei Global ICT Competition finals in Shenzhen, China.
During the event, the participating Kenyan students were recognised for their outstanding performance, emerging as winners and runners-up in various categories.
ICT student teams from JKUAT, Machakos University, Moi University, the University of Nairobi, and Egerton University made Kenya proud by securing awards across various competitive categories at the event held in Shenzhen, China.
A joint team from JKUAT and Machakos University took home the top award in the Computing Track. The team featured Esther Guichaiya and Ephraim Shikanga from JKUAT, alongside Mark Omaiko and Ian Omwenga from Machakos University.
An all-female team from Moi University and JKUAT secured second place in the Cloud category.
Team members included Ifrah Hussein and Beverly Ndombi from Moi University, and Banzy from JKUAT.
In the Network Track, a collaborative team from JKUAT, Machakos University, and the University of Nairobi earned second prize. The team consisted of Rukia Mwari Mohammed (JKUAT), Brian Kipkoech (Machakos University), and Odanga Clemet (University of Nairobi).
Egerton University’s “Silicon Savannah” team placed third for their Smart Air Quality Monitoring System.
The awards ceremony was graced by a Kenyan delegation, including Fikirini Jacobs, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy; Kenyan Ambassador to China Willy Bett; and Huawei Kenya representatives Khadija Mohammed (Media Director) and Lutta Yeng.
PS Fikirini hailed Huawei while applauding Kenya’s performance.

"May you continue to grow and refine your skills for the advancement of our great nation. Wishing you more grace, comrades and friends."
Now in its tenth edition, the Huawei ICT Competition ranks among the world’s largest technology contests for university students.
Since its launch in 2015, it has offered a platform to over 960,000 students from more than 2,000 institutions in over 100 countries, helping them enhance their ICT knowledge, practical skills, and innovation capabilities.
