Muslims nationwide kick off Eid-al-Adha celebrations

In Mombasa, the sacred event took place at multiple locations throughout the coastal city.
Muslim worshippers across the country have come together to observe Eid-al-Adha prayers, marking the beginning of the four-day festival.
On Wednesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen officially declared the day a public holiday in honor of Islam’s second most important festival, following Eid-ul-Fitr, which concludes Ramadan fasting.
In Mombasa, the sacred event took place at multiple locations throughout the coastal city.
Among those attending was Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Hassan Joho, who joined congregants at the Ummu Kulthum Mosque in Kizingo.
Simultaneously, special prayers were also held at Tononoka grounds.
Elsewhere, celebrations continued in Kisumu, where early morning prayers were conducted at Highway ECDE Primary and Junior School near Kibuye Market.
The ritual slaughtering of goats symbolizes Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and readiness to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to Allah’s command, but Allah accepted a ram as a substitute, honoring Ibrahim’s faith.
Eid-ul-Adha takes place during Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, coinciding with the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
