Omtatah’s team gathers nationwide views to shape presidential manifesto

Presidential hopeful and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has begun a countrywide tour to engage with Kenyans and gather insights that will shape his political manifesto ahead of his official campaign launch.
Mary Riungu, Chairperson of the Okiya Omtatah Presidential Exploratory Committee speaking in Kisumu, emphasized the team's dedication to understanding the diverse challenges facing citizens across different regions.
Omtatah’s team has been in Nyanza this week speaking to residents to identify key issues affecting their daily lives, governance, and the national economy.
Riungu said that the group has toured several counties, including Migori and Homa Bay, and is currently engaging with communities in Kisumu.
She said the data collection process is crucial for Omtatah’s campaign, as it aims to identify and address county-specific challenges.
Throughout their initial nationwide indoor meetings, which have included visits to Nyanza and the Mt. Kenya region, several recurring issues have surfaced.
One of the main concerns raised by residents in both regions is dissatisfaction with the government’s Social Housing Agenda (SHA), which they claim has failed to meet its promises.
They also expressed concerns over high taxation rates, with many residents feeling that the financial strain is becoming unsustainable.
Another pressing issue raised was the rising cost of boda boda services. Reports indicate that the price of motorbikes has skyrocketed to approximately Sh150,000.
