A father's pain: Albert Ojwang's father shares details of son's final moments

The grieving father shared a harrowing account of the events that led to Albert’s arrest in Migori on Saturday afternoon.
The father of the late teacher, Albert Ojwang, has spoken out for the first time following his son’s tragic death while in police custody in Nairobi.
Addressing reporters outside Central Police Station in Nairobi on Sunday, June 8, the grieving father shared a harrowing account of the events that led to Albert’s arrest in Migori on Saturday afternoon.
He revealed that several officers, dressed in plain clothes, showed up at their home and handcuffed his son without providing any clear reason.
"They were even laughing when they came to arrest him. My son didn’t even get a chance to eat before they took him away in handcuffs," said the distraught father.
He also mentioned that when he asked the officers why they were arresting his son, they responded with a cold and dismissive attitude.
"I asked them why they were arresting him, and they told me it was because my son had allegedly insulted one of their superiors on X. When I requested to know what he had said, they simply told me to stay quiet and come with them to the police station in Nairobi," the grieving father added.
Activist Hussein Khalid confirmed that Ojwang’s lifeless body was taken to City Mortuary following his death.
According to reports, Ojwang was found dead in his cell while in police custody.
After his arrest, he was transported to Nairobi and held at Central Police Station.
However, close friends and family revealed that Ojwang’s name was never recorded in the Occurrence Book (OB), a standard protocol for documenting arrests.
