Malala claims police assaulted his driver in Kakamega

Malala revealed that police officers had been following his vehicle and stopped it.
The interim deputy party leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Cleophas Malala, has accused police officers in Kakamega of violently assaulting his driver.
In a social media statement released on Monday, June 9, 2025, Malala revealed that police officers had been following his vehicle and stopped it.
When they realized Malala was not in the car, they ordered his driver to proceed to an undisclosed location. After the driver refused, he was brutally attacked with a gun pointer, resulting in severe bleeding.
Malala further stated that the officers denied his driver immediate medical care and instead unlawfully detained him for several hours at the Kakamega Central Police Station.
It was only after this detention that the driver was taken under armed escort to Kakamega General Hospital for treatment.
He also accused the police of attempting to destroy evidence by tampering with the driver’s phone to erase photos documenting the incident an effort that ultimately failed.
Malala confirmed that he will not let the matter be swept under the rug and is in the process of filing a formal complaint with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
This incident follows just days after Malala declared that President William Ruto would not manipulate the 2027 general elections.
He made these comments during a brief stop in Voi, Taita Taveta County, while accompanying DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on their tour of the coastal region on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Addressing the crowd, Malala emphasized that those who supported the President in the 2022 general elections have now come together, and no votes will be stolen.
"I served as Secretary General of President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, while Gachagua was the deputy party leader," he stated
"He is trying to intimidate Kenyans by threatening to rig the votes. But we want to assure you that the very people who helped him steal that election are now with us here in DCP. Not a single vote will be stolen. We have united," he added.
