A group of grassroots leaders in Isiolo is calling on President William Ruto to step in and help resolve the ongoing standoff between Governor Abdi Guyo and Members of the County Assembly.

The leaders raised concerns that the political tensions have significantly disrupted service delivery across the county.

Grassroots leaders in Isiolo convened meetings across various wards on Friday to discuss the ongoing political tension between Governor Abdi Guyo and Members of the County Assembly, a standoff they say is worsening daily life for residents.

In Bula Pesa ward, community leader Lydia Ntinyari voiced concern over the looming impeachment motion against the governor, warning that such action would harm ordinary citizens.

“We appeal to President Ruto to personally intervene and help bring this matter to a close,” she told Citizen Digital.

Stephene Ngatia, a local resident, said leaders should focus on uplifting the region rather than fighting political battles.

“They need to concentrate on creating jobs and improving livelihoods,” he said.

Another resident, Emmanuel Mzungu, called on the MCAs to consult the public before pushing forward with any impeachment process.

Joseline Kagendo, another grassroots voice, emphasized the importance of reconciliation.

“We must sit down as leaders and talk. Dialogue is key to resolving our differences and fostering unity,” she said.

Secretary General of the Isiolo Somali Council of Elders, Abdila Hassan, urged the warring factions to embrace dialogue over confrontation.

“There’s no need for conflict. Everything can be resolved through dialogue,” he said, calling on President Ruto to step in and help mediate the standoff.

He noted that minority communities in the region were especially concerned about the ongoing tension, which they feel has left them vulnerable.

The political deadlock intensified after Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana tabled a notice of motion seeking to impeach Governor Abdi Guyo.

Following the move, the governor has seven days to issue a formal response to the allegations raised.

Speaker Mohamed Roba has since announced that the County Assembly will initiate a public participation process as required by law.

Meanwhile, tensions ran high outside the assembly buildings, prompting police to fire warning shots in the air to disperse residents who had attempted to force their way in, protesting the impeachment plans.

The motion has received backing from all 18 MCAs, signaling a united front against the governor. The grounds cited for the proposed impeachment include gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violation of the Constitution.

Specifically, the MCAs have accused Governor Guyo of breaching Chapter Six of the Constitution, along with provisions of the Leadership and Integrity Act and the Public Officers’ Ethics Act.

“The cited laws emphasize respect for the rule of law, good governance, accountability, and transparency as fundamental principles of ethical leadership,” Godana stated.

Amid the unfolding political drama, reports indicate that a section of MCAs have retreated to a hotel in Nakuru.

Sources claim the legislators have switched off their phones, possibly to avoid external pressure or influence as the impeachment process gains momentum.
