In Summary

Speaking on Saturday,  October 12, 2025, Raila’s elder brother and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has dismissed reports suggesting that ODM leader Raila Odinga is in critical condition.

The family of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has confirmed that he is currently recuperating in India, where he has been undergoing treatment.

Speaking on Saturday,  October 12, 2025, Raila’s elder brother and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has dismissed reports suggesting that ODM leader Raila Odinga is in critical condition.

He assured Kenyans that the ODM leader is recovering well while in India.

Oburu said Raila had been a little indisposed but was now recuperating and resting.

He urged the public to ignore exaggerated claims about Raila’s health circulating in the press.

“I want to tell you that Raila is up and about. Just like any other human being, he was indisposed a little and is now recuperating and resting,” Oburu said.

He clarified that the former Prime Minister was not in the serious condition portrayed by some reports and would soon be back to his routine engagements.

“He was not in those conditions which have been put in the press. I want to clarify that, and very soon you will see him,” Oburu added.

The senator’s remarks come amid growing speculation on social media about Raila’s whereabouts and health status, following his recent low public profile.

The veteran opposition leader and five-time presidential contender, has in recent days been out of the public spotlight following his return from international engagements.

The clarification from the family comes a few days after Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango dismissed reports of ill-health, insisting that he was on his routine travels abroad.

He also accused a section of political figures led by impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa of orchestrating a “familiar campaign of misinformation” targeting the opposition leader.

According to the statement, the alleged misinformation is being spread by the same team that previously attacked Odinga’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission earlier this year.

“The misinformation is broadcast by the same team that went on a frenzy against Hon. Raila’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission earlier this year,” the statement read.

The Secretariat accused the politicians of co-opting sections of the media and bloggers to spread false information, including AI-generated images, which are then circulated as breaking news.
