KDF confirms deaths of two pilots in Kwale crash

In a statement, KDF says the aircraft was on a training mission in the area when it crashed after experiencing an emergency, killing both pilots.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has now confirmed the deaths of two pilots, who died after their aircraft crashed in Kwale County on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
In a statement, KDF says the aircraft was on a training mission in the area when it crashed after experiencing an emergency, killing both pilots.
"Yesterday, 14th June 2025, a Kenya Air Force Grob 120A aircraft experienced an emergency while on a training flight and crashed in the general area of Mwakijembe Primary School, Mafundani village, Kwale County. On board were two pilots," KDF says.
"With deep sadness, we confirm the passing of both pilots in the crash."
The Kenya Air Force has constituted and dispatched investigation teams to establish the cause of the air crash.
"May the Almighty Lord rest the souls of the departed heroes in peace and grant their families fortitude at this time of deep sorrow," said KDF.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya also expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased pilots.
"My heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives and all colleagues of our two gallant Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers who lost their lives in yesterday's accident involving a Kenya Air Force (KAF) Grob 120A aircraft which was on a training flight in Kwale County," posted the CS.
"As the Ministry of Defence (MOD) family, we will stand together during this difficult period of mourning our departed colleagues."
