CS Tuya pledges full disclosure on KDF plane crash details

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has pledged to provide the nation with a comprehensive account of the circumstances surrounding the Kenya Air Force plane crash that occurred in Viramboni village, Ndavaya, Kwale County.
In a statement released on the evening of Saturday, June 14, 2025, CS Tuya confirmed receiving a detailed briefing on the incident and affirmed that the aircraft involved was a Grob 120A model.
She, however, assured the public that comprehensive details would be made available once investigations are complete.
"I have received a briefing regarding the aviation incident involving a Kenya Air Force (KAF) Grob 120A aircraft, which took place this afternoon during a training mission in Kwale County," read part of her statement.
"Additional information about the unfortunate event will be provided in due course," the statement added.
In an initial report, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) acknowledged the crash, indicating that the aircraft encountered an unspecified emergency.
They confirmed that the plane was on a training flight and had two pilots on board at the time.
In a post shared on X, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) stated that on Saturday, June 14, 2025, a Kenya Air Force Grob 120A aircraft encountered an emergency during a training mission near Mwakijembe Primary School in Ndavaya, Kwale County.
The aircraft had two pilots on board, and recovery efforts were still underway.
KDF did not immediately disclose the condition of the two pilots.
Images from the crash site showed the aircraft severely damaged, with the fuselage shattered, the roof completely torn off, and the front section bearing the brunt of the destruction compared to the relatively intact tail.
The aircraft came down in an open, vegetated field, illustrating the severity of the crash’s impact.
