Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has called out individuals vying for his seat over premature campaigns.

He expressed concern that the county is already in a campaign mood, despite being only halfway through the current term.

“As you travel across the county, you’ll notice residents gathering along roadsides to catch a glimpse of gubernatorial hopefuls. It almost feels like the elections are just around the corner,” he remarked.

The county chief warned political hopefuls that starting campaigns too early could deplete their resources before the 2027 elections.

He advised those eyeing his position to be cautious with the electorate, noting that voters often shower praise on candidates who offer financial incentives.

Lusaka, currently serving his final term, assured residents that he would guide them on the way forward.

He served as Governor for five years since 2013 but could not defend the seat in the 2017 election that was won by Wycliffe Wangamati. Lusaka was named Senate Speaker where he served for 5 years until he decided to try his luck in Bungoma again, winning the seat.

While addressing locals in Tongaren constituency during the launch of a free fertilizer and maize seed distribution program, he emphasized his commitment to ensuring the county’s leadership remains in capable hands.

The initiative, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, will benefit 500 individuals in each of the county’s 45 wards.

Lusaka encouraged farmers to fully utilize the free farm inputs to boost food security across the county.

Through the initiative, every vetted farmer receives 10 kilograms of maize seeds and 50 kilograms of fertilizer to support their agricultural efforts.
