Isiolo court halts impeachment proceedings against Governor Guyo

The order, issued on Monday by Justice Nyaga Heston Mbogo, follows an urgent application filed by the Governor challenging a notice of motion dated June 10, 2025, which sought to remove him from office.
The High Court in Isiolo has issued a conservatory order temporarily halting the planned impeachment proceedings against Isiolo Governor Guyo.
The order, issued on Monday by Justice Nyaga Heston Mbogo, follows an urgent application filed by the Governor challenging a notice of motion dated June 10, 2025, which sought to remove him from office.
In the court’s directions, Justice Mbogo certified the application as urgent and ordered that it be served upon all the respondents—including the County Assembly of Isiolo, the Speaker, and others—by the close of business on June 17, 2025.
“Pending the hearing and determination of the application inter partes, a conservatory order is hereby issued restraining the Respondents or their agents from admitting, processing, debating, or in any way considering the impeachment motion scheduled for debate on Tuesday, 17th June 2025, or any other date,” the court ruled.
The court also ordered the third respondent to furnish the Governor with a copy of the impeachment motion and all supporting documents within 48 hours.
Respondents have been given seven days to file their responses, with the petitioner granted three days to respond thereafter.
The matter is set for compliance and further directions on June 30, 2025.
The ruling effectively freezes the impeachment process, providing Governor Hassan a temporary reprieve as the legal battle unfolds.
A motion to impeach Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo was tabled by Sericho Ward MCA Abubakar Godana at the Isiolo County Assembly last Tuesday.
The motion accuses the governor of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and violations of the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012.
It has received unanimous backing from all 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), including the Majority Leader and Garbatulla MCA Abdirashid Ali.
