Speaker Koto described the rumors as part of a "deliberate disinformation campaign" targeting the County Assembly at a time when it is navigating a politically charged legal dispute.

Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba Koto has firmly denied reports alleging his resignation. He called the claims a fabrication meant to mislead the public and undermine the Assembly’s oversight authority.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Speaker Koto described the rumors as part of a "deliberate disinformation campaign" targeting the County Assembly at a time when it is navigating a politically charged legal dispute.

The controversy comes on the heels of a High Court order issued on June 16, 2025, which temporarily halted planned impeachment proceedings against Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan.

The court, led by Justice Nyaga Heston Mbogo, granted a conservatory order suspending any action on a notice of motion dated June 10, 2025, that sought to remove the Governor from office.

The order barred the County Assembly and the Speaker from admitting, processing, debating, or considering the impeachment motion—originally scheduled for June 17—pending a full hearing.

The legal directive followed a petition filed by the Governor challenging the legitimacy of the motion.

In a statement obtained by Radio Generation, Speaker Koto clarified that he has not issued any resignation—neither verbal nor written—as required under the Constitution of Kenya and the County Governments Act.

He affirmed his continued leadership of the Assembly and reiterated his commitment to steering the House through its business without disruption.

“This narrative of resignation is not only false but also a strategic move aimed at sowing confusion during a critical time,” Koto said. “The public should disregard any such reports unless officially communicated by the Assembly.”

The court has also directed the Assembly to serve the Governor with a copy of the impeachment motion and its supporting documents within 48 hours.

Respondents have been given seven days to file their responses, while the Governor has three days to reply. The case is set for compliance review and further directions on June 30, 2025.

Koto urged the public, media, and all stakeholders to remain vigilant and to rely only on official communication from the County Assembly.

He emphasized the Assembly’s resolve to uphold its constitutional mandate without yielding to political pressure or misinformation.

"The Isiolo County Assembly remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional duties. We shall not be distracted by propaganda or intimidation," Koto said, calling for continued support from the public as the legal process unfolds.
