Isiolo Speaker, MCAs appear before DCI as public backs Governor's impeachment

Following the session, the Speaker addressed the media and confirmed that no arrests were made.
The Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly, Mohamed Roba Qoto, OGW, appeared before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his legal counsel and 16 Members of the County Assembly.
Following the session, the Speaker addressed the media and confirmed that no arrests were made.
According to his legal team, the meeting was part of a standard investigative procedure in which statements were recorded and documents submitted in full compliance with the law.
Speaker Qoto reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to operating within the framework of the Constitution and maintaining its legislative responsibilities.
He assured the public that the business of the County Assembly will continue as scheduled, with the next sitting set for Thursday.
The Speaker reaffirmed that the institution remains focused on its constitutional mandate and will not be distracted from delivering services to the people of Isiolo.
Meanwhile, residents of Isiolo County turned out in large numbers to participate in public forums on the impeachment motion against Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo on Tuesday.
The forums, held across various wards, showed overwhelming support for the motion, with citizens voicing concerns about governance and accountability.
In Bula Pesa Ward, 7,650 residents supported the motion while only 27 opposed.
Burat Ward saw 5,760 in favour and 126 against. In Ngaremara Ward, 7,633 supported and 39 opposed. Garba Tulla recorded 6,560 for and 673 against, while Kinna Ward saw a more divided outcome with 3,100 supporting and 2,360 opposing.
Sericho Ward recorded 1,640 in support and 766 opposed; Cherab had 2,290 supporting and 1,670 opposing; and Chari Ward had 2,752 in favour and 76 against.
Wabera Ward was the only ward where the majority — 5,660 residents — opposed the motion, with just 1,456 in support. Data from Oldonyiro Ward is still pending.
Except for Wabera Ward, the majority of Isiolo’s wards demonstrated clear support for the impeachment.
The County Assembly acknowledged the high level of civic engagement, noting that the results reflect the people's desire for greater accountability and integrity in leadership.
In a statement, the Assembly commended residents for their active participation, calling the process a powerful demonstration of democracy in action.
“The voice of the people is clear, and the Assembly will ensure it is heard. We remain guided by the Constitution and committed to transparent, lawful governance,” the statement read.
The motion accuses the governor of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and violations of the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012.
It has received unanimous backing from all 18 members of the County Assembly (MCAs), including the Majority Leader and Garbatulla MCA Abdirashid Ali.
