Kenya Power confirms Stima Plaza security guard fatally shot during protests

The deceased was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Utility firm, Kenya Power, has confirmed that a security guard stationed outside its Stima Plaza headquarters in Ngara, Nairobi, was shot dead during Wednesday's protests.
In a statement, Kenya Power says the tragedy occurred late in the afternoon.
"We are deeply saddened to report that Mr. Fred Wamale Wanyonyi, a security guard stationed at our Stima Plaza headquarters, was fatally shot at the entrance of the building at 4:30 pm this evening during the ongoing protests," said the firm.
Wamale, an employee of Hatari Security, was on duty at the Kolobot Road entrance when the incident occurred.
According to the firm, the guard was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The firm added that it is working with authorities to unravel the tragedy that occurred as thousands of protesters poured out onto the streets of the capital, in remembrance of victims who were killed during protests in June 2024.
"We regret the unfortunate death of Mr. Wamale and are working with the relevant investigative organs to unearth the circumstances under which the incident occurred," Kenya Power said.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time."
