Rain and low temperatures predicted in Nairobi and surrounding counties

During the day, weather in these regions is expected to be mostly cloudy with occasional light rains breaking into sunny intervals by midday or early afternoon.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a detailed forecast warning of rain and colder-than-usual nights over the next five days for Nairobi, Kiambu, and several other counties.
The latest update, released on Monday evening, predicts nighttime temperatures could fall to as low as 7°C in Nairobi County and surrounding highland areas including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi, accompanied by occasional light night showers.
During the day, weather in these regions is expected to be mostly cloudy with occasional light rains breaking into sunny intervals by midday or early afternoon. This pattern of afternoon and nighttime showers is likely to continue throughout the week. Despite the chilly nights, daytime temperatures in the Eastern Highlands and Rift Valley are forecast to warm to around 25°C.
Further west, counties around the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin—such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira—are expected to experience occasional rain showers in the mornings from Wednesday to Saturday, mixed with sunny spells during the early hours. Cloud cover is expected to increase in the afternoons and evenings, bringing showers and thunderstorms to some areas.
In the South-Eastern Lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and parts of inland Tana River, mornings will begin cloudy but gradually clear up to allow for sunny afternoons between Wednesday and Saturday. This region is expected to experience mainly dry weather, with partly cloudy nights. Daytime temperatures could reach 31°C while nighttime lows hover around 10°C, creating favorable conditions for outdoor activities.
Residents in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as coastal areas of Tana River, should prepare for showers in the morning, afternoon, and night. Despite the rains, temperatures will remain warm, with lows near 21°C and highs climbing up to 31°C throughout the week.
The North-Western region covering Turkana and Samburu counties will largely remain dry with mostly sunny days and partly cloudy nights. Rainfall is expected on Friday afternoon, but residents should be ready for sharp temperature changes with highs reaching 37°C during the day and lows dropping to 7°C at night.
In the North-Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the forecast calls for long periods of sunshine during the day with dry mornings. Isolated afternoon showers cannot be ruled out on Wednesday.
While parts of the western and central Rift Valley will see occasional showers, the northern and southeastern regions of Kenya are predicted to remain mostly dry and sunny with only brief, localized rain expected mid-week.
