Ruto, Macron rally global support for fairer financing at 4P summit

The meeting was co-chaired by Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron.
President William Ruto has emphasized that global efforts to build prosperity and combat climate change should not be framed as a rivalry between developed and developing nations.
Speaking at a high-level session of the Pact for Prosperity, People and Planet (4P) during the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, Ruto said the initiative aims to correct injustices in the global financial system that have long hindered progress in poorer countries.
The meeting was co-chaired by Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron.
He noted that the 4P framework brings together 73 countries with a shared vision to deliver practical financing solutions, rather than finger-pointing or geopolitical divisions.
“This is not a South versus North conversation. It’s about finding real solutions that work for everyone,” Ruto said.
The President praised the 4P pact for aligning development priorities with climate action, stressing that no nation should have to choose between fighting poverty and addressing climate change.
“I’m encouraged by the momentum the 4P has gained. It’s a reflection of the dedication of all stakeholders and the effectiveness of the Secretariat,” he added.
Ruto also called on governments to enhance domestic resource mobilization, warning against over-reliance on global financial institutions.
“We have a role to play at the national level. While we push for fair representation in the international financial system, we must also provide homegrown solutions,” he said.
He highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in sectors like healthcare as a way to drive sustainable development.
President Macron echoed Ruto’s remarks, saying collaboration not division between the Global North and South is essential
