Two killed in suspected Al-Shabaab IED attack in Garissa County

Authorities suspect the attack was carried out by Al-Shabaab militants, who continue to pose a serious security threat in the region.
Two people were killed on Monday morning in a deadly improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Bodhai, Madah Adon, within Garissa County.
Authorities suspect the attack was carried out by Al-Shabaab militants, who continue to pose a serious security threat in the region.
The victims have been identified as Mohamed Shabel Bashir and Abdikadir Muhumed Salat.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation. Preliminary reports indicate that the IED detonated during the early hours, targeting the two individuals as they traveled through the area.
Ijara Member of Parliament, Abdi Ali Abdi, condemned the attack, calling it a “senseless act of violence” and a painful reminder of the ongoing threats to peace and security in the region.
“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need to safeguard the lives of our citizens,” he said.
“I urge our national and regional security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he added.
Garissa County has witnessed a series of attacks in recent years linked to the Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab.
The group often targets security personnel, public infrastructure, and civilians in border areas.
Security forces have since launched investigations and intensified patrols in the area to prevent further incidents and reassure the public.
Ijara legislator Abdi Ali Abdu called for increased collaboration between security agencies and residents to counter violent extremism and restore lasting peace across northern Kenya.
