Police arrest suspected drug peddler, gang member in separate Kilifi raids

Officers from Kilifi Sub-County apprehended a suspected drug dealer in the Kibaoni area following a tip-off from members of the public. Acting swiftly, the officers laid an ambush and successfully intercepted the suspect.
Police in Kilifi County have arrested two suspects in separate operations targeting drug trafficking and gang activity, as security agencies intensify their crackdown on crime in the coastal region.
In the first incident, officers from Kilifi Sub-County apprehended a suspected drug dealer in the Kibaoni area following a tip-off from members of the public. Acting swiftly, the officers laid an ambush and successfully intercepted the suspect.
A body search led to the discovery of a nylon packet containing 11 sachets of a substance believed to be heroin, along with Ksh 800 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the illegal trade.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is being held at Kilifi Police Station pending formal charges, while the seized items have been secured as evidence.
Meanwhile, police in Mtwapa carried out a separate sting operation near Bemu Guest House, targeting a criminal gang. One suspect was arrested, while others fled and are currently being pursued by law enforcement.
Recovered from the arrested suspect was a backpack containing three suspected stolen smartphones, seven and a half large rolls of what is believed to be cannabis, a kitchen knife, and a taser. The suspect is in custody as police prepare to arraign him.
In a statement on social media, the National Police Service commended members of the public for their cooperation in providing information that led to the arrests.

The dual arrests come amid growing concern from residents in the coastal region over rising drug abuse and criminal activity, with many calling on authorities to intensify action to protect the region’s youth and restore safety.
