The 1.3-kilometer road will be fully tarmacked and will include proper drainage systems and pedestrian walkways to improve mobility and safety for road users.

The County Government of Garissa handed over the site for the construction of the Burburis–Bula Madina Road on Wednesday.

It marks a key milestone in the county’s urban infrastructure development.

The 1.3-kilometer road will be fully tarmacked and will include proper drainage systems and pedestrian walkways to improve mobility and safety for road users.

The handover ceremony took place at the project site and was attended by Galbet Ward MCA Abubakar Mohamed Khalif, County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Transport and Public Works Nasir Mohamed Aden, and the contractor, who is set to begin construction immediately.

Galbet Ward Member of the County Assembly Abubakar Mohamed Khalif expressed optimism that the project would significantly transform the connectivity of the ward and unlock new opportunities for local residents.

“This road will ease movement and open up business opportunities for my constituents,” said Abubakar.

“For years, residents of Burburis and Bula Madina have faced challenges accessing town during the rainy season due to impassable roads,” he said.

Abubakar added that the initiative will restore dignity to our communities and give our youth and women better access to markets, schools, and essential services.

He further noted that the project is a result of persistent lobbying and close collaboration with the county executive.

“This is the fruit of inclusive leadership. We have listened to the cries of our people, and now we are acting. I want to thank Governor Nathif Jama for prioritizing Galbet Ward in this phase of road development. We will continue to follow up to ensure the contractor delivers quality work on time,” he underscored.

CECM Nasir Mohamed Aden emphasized the administration’s commitment to quality service delivery and prudent use of public funds.

“We’re committed to quality roads that serve our people and reflect value for money. The Burburis–Bula Madina Road is part of a bigger plan to enhance urban infrastructure and improve mobility within Garissa Town,” he said.

Nasir said the project falls under the county’s broader infrastructure development agenda as outlined in Governor Nathif Jama’s manifesto, which places strong emphasis on modernizing road networks to spur economic growth and improve quality of life.

“Construction has commenced immediately and is projected to be completed within the stipulated contract period,” said the county executive officer.
