IEBC Chairperson Edung Ethekon announced that the Commission is in the final stages of internal preparations and will formally communicate the CVR schedule through a gazette notice in August 2025.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has unveiled plans to restart the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, signaling the beginning of preparations for the 2027 General Election.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 21, 2025, IEBC Chairperson Edung Ethekon announced that the Commission is in the final stages of internal preparations and will formally communicate the CVR schedule through a gazette notice in August 2025.

“The Commission is finalising the necessary internal processes and will, in August, issue a gazette notice outlining the timelines for the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration to give eligible Kenyans the chance to enlist as voters,” the statement read.

The electoral body also acknowledged increased public pressure, particularly from the youth, to be actively involved in the country’s democratic processes.

“We recognise the growing voices of young Kenyans who are eager to participate in shaping Kenya’s future through the ballot. Their call to be seen, heard, and included is loud and clear,” the Commission noted.

This announcement comes just days after the IEBC reaffirmed its readiness to deliver credible and peaceful elections during the August 10, 2027, polls.

Addressing journalists on July 19, Ethekon reiterated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to constitutional principles and adherence to electoral laws.

“As we roll out our roadmap for the 2027 General Election, we assure the nation of our preparedness to conduct inclusive, transparent, and peaceful elections in full compliance with the Constitution and all relevant statutes,” he stated.

He further underscored that the foundation of a strong democracy lies not only in institutions but also in the active involvement of the citizenry and all electoral stakeholders.

“A healthy democracy thrives on the integrity of its institutions and meaningful participation from the public. We therefore invite all stakeholders—including Parliament, civil society, development partners, the media, and the Kenyan public—to join hands with us as we implement key activities such as voter education and the broader General Elections Management Plan,” he added.
