In Summary

The initiative is being spearheaded by the National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF) – Western Region.

Kakamega County is set to unveil a pioneering initiative aimed at strengthening community welfare and solidarity among Muslims during times of hardship.

The Kakamega Muslim Benevolent Fund, the first of its kind in the region, will provide financial and spiritual support to Muslim families during illness, bereavement, and other crises.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF) – Western Region.

Speaking during a planning meeting, NAMLEF Western Regional Coordinator Cassim Ochibah said the fund would cover all twelve sub-counties in Kakamega County.

“The fund will serve Muslims across Kakamega and will be open to all. The registration fee is Ksh 100, and members will contribute a monthly subscription of Ksh 100,” said Ochibah.

Members will become eligible for support after six months of consistent contributions.

Services under the fund will include financial assistance, tents, chairs, and public address systems for use by bereaved families. It will also provide Islamic spiritual services during difficult times.

The fund’s operations will be coordinated by Suleiman Wawire, who will lead its management committee and oversee service delivery across the county.

In its long-term vision, the fund also plans to acquire a hearse van to facilitate dignified transportation of deceased Muslims.

“The hearse will ensure that every Muslim receives a dignified send-off, regardless of their economic background,” noted Ochibah.

“It’s about ensuring care and respect from start to finish.”

The Kakamega Muslim Benevolent Fund is expected to foster compassion, dignity, and communal solidarity.

It aims to fill a long-standing gap in structured support for Muslim families in the region.
