Seven arraigned in Eldoret over alleged assault on Turkana governor’s son

Testifying before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Kesses Cherono, Nimrod a professional footballer claimed he was attacked by a group affiliated with his father’s political adversaries.
A court in Eldoret has begun hearing a case involving seven individuals accused of assaulting Nimrod Ekamais Lomorukai, the son of Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, during an incident that allegedly took place near Lodwar town on April 29, 2024.
Testifying before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Kesses Cherono, Nimrod, a professional footballer, claimed he was attacked by a group affiliated with his father’s political adversaries.
He stated that his father had previously warned him about rising political tensions and hostility from rival camps in the region.
The accused in the case include an area MP alongside Peter Lokutuni, David Nangiro, Jemostar Akooyen, Bornfestus Nabuin, Joseph Ekitela, Sammy Ekitele, and James Abel.
They are jointly facing charges of assault as well as a separate count of conspiracy to defeat justice under Section 117(a) of the Penal Code.
Recounting the events of the day, Nimrod told the court he had been socializing at Cherina’s Hotel with friends identified as Lokatur, Forstin, and Desmond—when he sensed unease among certain individuals present. Concerned for his safety, he said he called his older brother, Lavish, to come and pick him up.
While waiting in the hotel’s parking yard, Nimrod alleged that he was suddenly slapped by a man he recognized as Peter Etung. Within moments, others reportedly joined in and began to beat him.
“I was caught off guard and fell on my stomach as the assault continued,” he told the court. A friend intervened and helped him to his feet before his brother arrived.
Upon Lavish’s arrival, the attackers allegedly fled back into the hotel.
Nimrod and his brother then drove to Lodwar Police Station to file a report. He was issued with a P3 form and later treated at Lodwar County Referral Hospital before being discharged.
The incident was subsequently reported to his parents.
Represented by lawyer Richard Warigi, Nimrod submitted a medical report as part of the evidence.
However, the report noted that there were no visible bloodstains on his body or clothing raising questions in court about the extent of the injuries he initially claimed to have suffered.
Meanwhile, the prosecution maintains that the accused not only took part in the alleged assault but also attempted to interfere with the judicial process.
The matter has been adjourned and is scheduled to resume on October 24, 2025, for further hearing.
