Kenya Railways has unveiled a revised timetable for the Suswa Leisure Train under the Madaraka Express Passenger Service, aimed at enhancing travel convenience along the Nairobi–Suswa route.

The new schedule will come into effect on Friday, August 1, 2025, impacting key stops including Rongai, Ngong, Mai Mahiu, and Suswa.

In a notice issued on Thursday, July 31, Kenya Railways said the changes are part of its commitment to improve passenger experience along the scenic route.

“Travel just got more convenient!” the corporation stated, encouraging commuters to familiarise themselves with the new schedule.

According to the updated timetable, the train will depart Nairobi at 8:50 a.m., making its first stop in Rongai at 9:14 am, and leaving at 9:19 am.

It will then stop at Ngong from 9:34 am. to 9:39 am, proceed to Mai Mahiu where it will halt between 10:24 a.m. and 10:27 a.m., and finally arrive in Suswa at 10:55 am.

The return trip will begin in Suswa at 4:05 p.m., with the train stopping at Mai Mahiu from 4:30 p.m. to 4:33 p.m., Ngong from 5:20 p.m. to 5:25 p.m., and Rongai from 5:40 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., before arriving back in Nairobi at 6:10 p.m.

Kenya Railways also reminded travelers that tickets for the Madaraka Express can be booked through its online platform or by using USSD, both available 24 hours a day.

Passengers can secure tickets up to 60 days in advance and are allowed to book for up to ten people in one transaction. Round-trip tickets are available as long as both journeys fall within the 60-day window.

The corporation stressed that each ticket is only valid for the specific train, date, and time indicated during booking. Open tickets are not accepted, and boarding a different train from the one booked will attract full fare charges along with a 30% penalty.

Refunds are available for unused tickets depending on the conditions of purchase and within the terms of the refund policy. All tickets must bear the traveler’s name and are strictly non-transferable. The name on the ticket must match the ID presented at boarding.

Travelers are required to carry valid identification such as a national ID or any other approved document. Those without acceptable identification will not be allowed to board.
