In Summary

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who serves as the party’s Deputy Leader, is reportedly spearheading a progressive wing pushing for a fresh rebrand to position DAP-K as a nationally appealing political outfit.

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has announced that all emerging internal disputes will be handled by its Internal Disputes Resolution Committee, following rising tensions that have seen the party split into two opposing camps.

Sources indicate that Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who serves as the party’s Deputy Leader, is spearheading a progressive wing pushing for a fresh rebrand to position DAP-K as a nationally appealing political outfit.

Meanwhile, party leader Eugene Wamalwa is said to be at the helm of a more conservative faction keen on preserving the party’s current identity and leadership structure.

Addressing the media on Friday, Secretary General Dr. Eseli Simiyu acknowledged receiving multiple petitions targeting the leadership, including calls for the ouster of both Wamalwa and Natembeya.

He clarified that the party’s internal mechanisms will be used to resolve these disputes, and the committee will provide guidance on the way forward.

In his remarks, Eugene Wamalwa urged party members and supporters to remain calm, assuring them that the situation will be managed within the party’s democratic framework. He emphasized that DAP-K remains stable and committed to internal dialogue.

“There’s no need for alarm; the party is strong,” Wamalwa stated. “I don’t feel threatened at all. We are a democratic institution and can handle our own affairs.”

Despite the internal turbulence, Wamalwa confirmed that DAP-K will participate in the upcoming by-elections in Malava and Ugunja constituencies, signaling that the party remains politically active and focused even as it addresses internal challenges.
