The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested 14 people linked to a violent attack that disrupted an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raid at the home of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in Kitale on Monday.

The suspects face charges including malicious damage, theft, and obstruction of justice after stopping officers executing court-approved search warrants.

The raid was part of an investigation into alleged irregular procurement and fraudulent payments totaling Sh1.4 billion by the Trans Nzoia County Government during the 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 fiscal years.

The operation targeted the governor’s residence and office, as well as properties connected to four other suspects.

EACC officers were searching the governor’s home in the presence of his family, the county attorney, and legal counsel when unknown individuals stormed the property, overpowering security officers.

The attackers vandalised at least five EACC vehicles and stole seized items, disrupting the ongoing operation.

The DCI said the suspects were arrested in a joint operation by local police and detectives from its headquarters and are currently in custody pending arraignment.

"All have been taken to custody pending arraignment," the DCI confirmed, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities condemned the attack as a deliberate effort to block justice and weaken the rule of law. The DCI vowed to hold every person involved accountable.
