Principal Secretary for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr Esther Muoria, has lauded Harambee Stars’ opening victory at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), crediting the team’s performance to values championed within Kenya’s TVET institutions.

In a statement shared on her official X account on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Muoria congratulated the national team for their 1-0 win against the Democratic Republic of Congo, praising the players for their discipline, teamwork, and commitment.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our national football team Harambee Stars for their outstanding victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo in the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament,” she posted.

According to the PS, the win is not just a sporting triumph but also a demonstration of the life skills and character traits cultivated through structured training traits she believes are central to both sports and vocational education.

“As the Principal Secretary for TVET, I recognize the power of sports in shaping character, promoting teamwork, and fostering national pride—values that closely align with what we instill in our TVET institutions,” Muoria stated.

She further expressed hope that the national team’s success would motivate thousands of young people currently enrolled in technical and vocational colleges across the country.

“Your determination on the field inspires youth across Kenya, including thousands of TVET trainees, to believe in themselves and strive for excellence in their respective fields,” she added.

With Kenya hosting the CHAN tournament for the first time, Muoria described the win as a symbol of national unity and a hopeful sign of better results ahead.

“May this victory be a steppingstone towards even greater success in the tournament. Continue flying the Kenyan flag high!” she urged.

Harambee Stars' win over DR Congo marks a promising start to their Group B campaign. The team is set to face Angola on Thursday, August 7, Morocco on Sunday, August 10, and Zambia on Sunday, August 17, in what is expected to be a competitive pool stage.
