IEBC opens voter accreditation for election observers

The Commission has also clarified that it does not offer payment for services rendered by accredited voter educators, election observers, or media personnel
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially launched the accreditation process for organizations seeking to participate in the country’s upcoming by-elections and electoral exercises for the 2025/2026 financial year.
In a public notice issued on August 6, IEBC called on interested organizations to apply for accreditation as Voter Education Providers, Election Observers, or Media Practitioners.
All applications must be submitted through the Commission’s online Accreditation Management System available at https://ams.iebc.or.ke, with the deadline set for Friday, 5th September 2025 at 5 pm.
Applicants must ensure they have access to a reliable internet connection during the submission process.
Voter Education Providers are additionally required to collect and complete a Physical Address Authentication Form from their County Election Manager’s office, which must be uploaded alongside other required documents.
IEBC will provide training for all accredited groups and issue official Accreditation Certificates, Identification Badges, and necessary support materials before the commencement of any election-related activities.
The Commission has also clarified that it does not offer payment for services rendered by accredited voter educators, election observers, or media personnel.
For more details, the public is encouraged to contact IEBC through their official telephone line or via email at accreditation@iebc.or.ke.
The development comes as the commission's Chair, Erastus Ethekon, assured the country that the 2027 General Elections will be free and fair, ruling out the possibility of rigging the election.
Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday in Nairobi, Ethekon allayed the fears of electoral malpractice, terming them as ‘impossible.’
“I personally don’t think there will be the stealing of votes. It is impossible!” he said.
“If there are loopholes, please point them out to the media.”
