Kindiki, Murkomen want Gachagua to record statement on terrorism claim

The two leaders described the former Deputy President’s remarks on terrorism as serious and a threat to national security
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen have urged former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to record a formal statement about terrorism allegations he made while in the United States.
Their call comes amid rising tensions over the security claims raised by Gachagua during his mission abroad.
Speaking at Sitotwo Primary School during a women and boda boda riders empowerment fundraiser, the two leaders described the former Deputy President’s remarks on terrorism as serious and a threat to national security.
Kindiki criticized his predecessor for speaking irresponsibly about Kenya’s security issues while outside the country.
“We have no issues with those who visit foreign countries, but they must be patriotic. Governments come and go, but Kenya will remain. Those insulting the President should not use their opportunity to threaten the national security of our country,” Kindiki said.
He further insisted that Gachagua must cooperate with security agencies by recording a statement as soon as he returns to Kenya.
“If he has any information about terrorism, he must be held accountable by recording a statement on what he knows about terrorism. We should not play games with matters of security,” Kindiki added.
Echoing the same sentiment, Cabinet Secretary Murkomen said the former Deputy President must clarify his claims by providing a detailed statement regarding what he knows about terrorism and security threats, including Al-Shabaab activities.
“We are waiting for Gachagua to record a statement on what he knows about terrorism, as he alleged while in the US. As soon as he arrives at the airport from the US, he must be held accountable by writing a statement to shed light on what he knows about Al-Shabaab and other terrorist acts,” Murkomen said.
The Interior CS expressed regret that Gachagua had raised sensitive terrorism issues abroad, insisting that accountability must be upheld upon his return.
Their position was supported by legislators from Elgeyo Marakwet County, including Woman Representative Caroline Ng’elechei, Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo, Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai, and Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen, who called on Gachagua to cooperate fully.
Kindiki also dismissed criticisms aimed at President William Ruto’s development record, asserting that the president has achieved much in less than three years.
He encouraged Kenyans to support President Ruto for a second term to continue with ongoing development projects nationwide.
Additionally, DP Kindiki expressed confidence in CS Murkomen’s ability to address banditry and cattle rustling in Kerio Valley.
Having previously led peace efforts as Interior CS, Kindiki said a strong foundation has been laid to secure lasting peace in the region.
The Deputy President highlighted that security has been restored in Baringo and Kerio Valley, allowing development to progress.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling the Kenya Kwanza manifesto through major projects such as roads, water, electricity, markets, schools, and hospitals.
DP Kindiki’s trust in Murkomen’s leadership is backed by the government’s recent investments in security modernization, including a Sh12 billion program to equip officers and improve their capacity to combat insecurity effectively.
