DP Kindiki pledges accelerated development in northern counties

Kindiki on Tuesday pledged a renewed push to bridge long-standing regional inequalities
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has vowed to fast-track stalled infrastructure and social projects in Northern Kenya.
Kindiki on Tuesday pledged a renewed push to bridge long-standing regional inequalities.
The Deputy President met with 20 Members of Parliament from Mandera, Wajir and Garissa counties at his official Karen residence.
Kindiki described himself as “a great advocate of inclusion, equity, and the indivisibility of Kenya.”
He stressed that affirmative action was essential for areas that had “lagged behind” in development.
“We are on course with our roads programme,” he said.
“Our roads programme had stalled, but now we’ve come up with an innovative financing model to sustain road construction for the remainder of this term and beyond.
Contractors who had abandoned sites six years ago have now started going back. I hope this will expedite northern Kenya roads, especially the Lamu–Ijara–Garissa corridor. The completion of that road will be a game changer for Kenya as a whole.”
The Deputy President also cited plans to accelerate projects in electricity, housing, markets, health and education as part of a broader inclusivity and affirmative action agenda.
The meeting, which brought together members of the North Eastern Parliamentary Group, was described by MPs as part of an ongoing “broader engagement framework” aimed at aligning national government initiatives with the region’s specific needs.
Eldas MP Aden Keinan said the session focused on “strategic interventions to address infrastructure gaps.
He said this will enhance economic opportunities and promote sustainable livelihoods” for communities in the north-east.
“As leaders, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering unity, strengthening collaboration and pursuing purposeful dialogue with the national leadership,” Keinan said.
“Through such consultative forums, we gain a vital platform to champion the aspirations of our constituents, driving equitable development that transforms lives today and lays a solid foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future.”
