DAP-K forms eight-member committee to resolve leadership disputes

The decision was reached during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the party’s headquarters
The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has set up an eight-member Internal Dispute Resolution Committee to address wrangles within its top leadership.
The decision was reached during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the party’s headquarters. The session was attended by party leader Eugene Wamalwa, deputy party leader and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, and chaired by Secretary General David Eseli Simiyu.
Eseli said the move follows earlier resolutions by the National Management Committee, which tasked the NEC with creating a structured process to handle internal disagreements.
“We had noted emerging disputes within the party, and it was agreed that the NEC would appoint members to an internal dispute resolution committee to address them,” he explained.
The committee will receive and review petitions from party members, listen to both petitioners and respondents, and make recommendations to the NEC within 30 days.
Those appointed include Wakili Ken Echesa, Caleb Burundi, Sumea Bashir, Dr Reginalda Wanyonyi, Edel Fuchuka, Pauline Odegah, Dr Chris Barasa, and Abel Mutimba. The members will choose a chairperson among themselves to guide the proceedings.
Eseli stressed that the process will be fair, transparent, and aimed at preserving the party’s unity. He said the committee’s findings will help maintain stability in DAP-K’s leadership and uphold the principles of internal democracy.
“The committee has the mandate to hear all sides, consider the facts, and give well-informed recommendations,” Eseli added. The move is expected to restore calm and focus within the party as it prepares for upcoming political activities.
