Five arrested in Kisii as NACADA seizes bhang worth Sh2 million

Among those arrested is the wife of Geoffrey Nyabira, a fugitive already facing a drug trafficking case at the Kisii Law Courts
Five suspects have been arrested in Kisii Town after a Friday morning raid by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), which led to the recovery of bhang valued at about Sh2 million and a stash of counterfeit alcoholic drinks.
The operation, conducted with support from a specialised police unit, targeted multiple sites linked to a group believed to be running a drug trafficking network.
Among those arrested is the wife of Geoffrey Nyabira, a fugitive already facing a drug trafficking case at the Kisii Law Courts. Nyabira reportedly escaped during the raid, and authorities say he is still being pursued.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa said Nyabira is a repeat offender who has continued with illegal operations despite pending court charges. Sales records recovered from his home suggest that he had distributed cannabis worth more than Sh1 million just hours before the raid.
"Let this be a warning to all drug dealers: NACADA will not relent. We are pursuing Nyabira and his entire network with every resource at our disposal. No stone will be left unturned until this poison is eradicated from our communities," said Omerikwa.
Investigators also found counterfeit liquor at a wines and spirits outlet linked to Nyabira, pointing to a wider network involving multiple illicit businesses.
The arrested suspects are being held at Nyanchwa Police Station and are set to face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act.
Authorities say more arrests could follow as investigations continue.
