The 4 am operation, conducted with Nairobi Area Police officers, targeted what authorities described as one of the biggest illicit brewing operations discovered in the county.

A multi-agency team led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) on Sunday morning raided a large illegal distillery in the Congo area of Kawangware, Nairobi.

The operation saw the arrest of three suspects, all females.

The 4 am operation, conducted with Nairobi Area Police officers, targeted what authorities described as one of the biggest illicit brewing operations discovered in the county.

"This sophisticated operation has disrupted a toxic supply chain feeding poison to communities across Nairobi," said the agency.

At the site, officers found more than 50 active brewing drums, 450 drums of 200 liters each filled with illicit alcohol, and 300 bags of molasses weighing 50 kilograms each.

They also seized eight sacks of Malawi brown sugar, 1,000 liters of chang’aa ready for sale, and banned nylon packaging materials allegedly meant for distribution in estates, including South B and Ingo.

The three women found running the brewing process were arrested and taken to Jogoo Road Police Station. The seized alcohol and raw materials were secured and will be forwarded to the Government Chemist for analysis.

Nacada said the raid was part of the ongoing Rapid Results Initiative against illicit alcohol ordered by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

"We’re sending a CLEAR message: NACADA will not back down. We’re closing in on illicit brew networks, and we’re taking back our neighborhoods," said NCADA.
