FKF boss urges corporates to back Harambee Stars' dream

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has urged Kenyan companies to take advantage of Harambee Stars’ impressive run at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) and formally invest in football.
Hussein said FKF’s long-term goal is to see Harambee Stars play at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
He credited much of the team’s recent success to President William Ruto’s direct involvement, which included personal visits, financial support, and words of motivation. According to him, this accounted for “60 percent of Harambee Stars’ great results in CHAN.”
Speaking on NTvs fixing the nation program on Monday, August 18, 2025, the FKF boss praised the President’s role and challenged corporates to follow suit, stressing that the CHAN momentum should be turned into long-term growth for Kenyan football.
“The goal is for Harambee Stars to play at the World Cup in 2030,” Hussein said. “To get there, we must invest in infrastructure, youth programs, and give young talent clear pathways to the national team.”
He noted that while political goodwill is already visible, the missing link is structured corporate sponsorship to support the local league and nurture young players across the country.
Kenya’s football is currently enjoying renewed attention after Harambee Stars topped Group A in CHAN with 10 points, edging two-time champions Morocco who finished second with nine. On Sunday, Stars beat Zambia 1-0 to book their spot in the quarterfinals.
Kenya will now face Madagascar in the last eight at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, August 22, 2025.
If they win, they will storm the semi-finals on an unbeaten run. The final is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where Stars are eyeing their first-ever CHAN title in front of home fans.
Hussein said the time is now for corporates to step in, warning that without structured investment, Kenya risks losing the momentum Harambee Stars have built.
