Kenya Met forecasts cold and cloudy weather across Nairobi and Rift Valley

Kenya is set to experience continued cold and cloudy weather in several parts of the country over the next five days, starting Friday, August 30, through Tuesday, September 3, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.

The forecast indicates temperatures will drop across the Highlands, Rift Valley, and South-eastern lowlands, while some regions will experience intermittent rainfall.

The weekly advisory, published on Friday, August 29, predicts that counties in the Highland East region, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, will record temperatures between 5°C and 7°C.

Meanwhile, parts of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo Marakwet are expected to see temperatures as low as 8°C.

Similar conditions are anticipated in Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

While these areas will face occasional cold and cloud cover, coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale are expected to remain moderately warm.

The North-eastern region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will also experience mild temperatures.

The meteorological department also issued a rainfall advisory for the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley.

Counties expected to experience rain include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

Rains are likely to start in the afternoon and extend into the night, accompanied by thunderstorms. On Monday, September 1, and Tuesday, September 2, the downpour is expected to begin in the morning.

Kenya Met also warned of strong southerly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots over the Coast, South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya, urging residents to take precautions where necessary.
