Siaya Governor James Orengo on Friday commended President William Ruto, describing him as a reliable leader who delivers on promises, as the county marked the launch of several major development initiatives.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium, Orengo said the projects represented a milestone for Siaya and would have lasting benefits for the local economy.
He highlighted that the President’s administration had honored its commitments by implementing programs aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
“The development that President Ruto has brought to Siaya is something I have not seen since the days of Jaramogi. He is a leader who says what he will do and does it,” Orengo told attendees in Friday, stressing that collaboration between county and national governments was vital for meaningful progress.
The initiatives unveiled include the modernisation of sports facilities, rehabilitation of roads, and upgrades to healthcare infrastructure.
These developments are expected to stimulate investment, generate employment opportunities, and encourage youth engagement in sports and entrepreneurship.
Residents welcomed the projects, expressing hope that they would address longstanding issues such as poor road conditions and limited access to medical services.
Political analysts noted that Orengo’s positive remarks may indicate a shift in relations between the opposition-led county and the national government.
The Governor, a senior ODM figure, has previously been a vocal critic of President Ruto. Observers say the collaboration could reshape political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and accelerate further development in the region.
Stakeholders involved in the projects expressed optimism that the initiatives would be sustained over time, with the potential for Siaya to become a model of county-national cooperation across Kenya.
