The Africa Esports Championship has been officially launched in Nairobi, with the city's Deputy Governor, James Muchiri, leading the event at City Hall.
This championship is being hailed as a new era for competitive mobile gaming in the country and a significant boost to Nairobi's burgeoning digital economy.
During the launch, Muchiri emphasized the potential of esports to create jobs, build businesses, and empower young people.
The event was also attended by Ronny Lusigi, the president of Esports Federation Kenya (ESFK), who expressed his belief that Kenya provides the ideal environment for the growth of esports in Africa.
The tournament will feature the sixteen top teams from across the continent competing for a prize pool of $8,000 (Sh 1.03 million) and a chance to qualify for the prestigious PUBG Mobile Global Championship.
The finals are expected to take place at Charter Hall, Nairobi, on September 13 and 14. This will be the first time Nairobi will host such a major esports final, and organizers expect it to attract considerable attention from fans and the media.
