The National Assembly has paid tribute to Team Kenya for its remarkable success at the 20th World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where the athletes showcased dominance on the global stage.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula announced the recognition on Tuesday, noting that legislators had requested the House to officially salute the team’s historic achievements.

“To this end, I wish to take this opportunity to recognise the exemplary performance of our athletes during the championships,” Wetang’ula told MPs.

Kenya emerged second overall in the world standings and took the top position in Africa, a performance that reinforced the country’s long-standing reputation as an athletics giant. The team brought home 11 medals—7 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze.

“It is noteworthy that a number of exemplary performers made history in their disciplines,” Wetang’ula remarked.

He further extended his praise to all Kenyan sportsmen and women competing across different fields, saying their contributions foster national unity and pride.

“As I commend their superlative performances, Honourable Members, I also wish to laud all other gallant sportsmen and women for flying our flag high and inspiring patriotism through other major sports competitions,” he said.

Concluding his statement, Wetang’ula said the country celebrates the athletes’ resilience and brilliance, adding that their victory is a source of inspiration for the nation.

“On my own behalf, that of the House, and indeed on behalf of the whole country, I wish to congratulate Team Kenya on its participation in the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo and recognise their historic achievement in the global arena.”

“This is no mean feat, and we celebrate their excellence, tenacity, and dedication that has not only brought glory to Kenya but also cemented our national pride as a powerhouse in athletics,” the Speaker added.
