Police in Uasin Gishu County arrested two suspects on Saturday, September 27, 2025, for the illegal transportation of ethanol.

According to a report by the National Police Service (NPS), officers intercepted a vehicle bearing two separate registration plates travelling towards Nakuru at about 3 pm, where they uncovered the ethanol.

“Upon further inspection, officers recovered 46 jerricans, each with a 30-litre capacity, all containing ethanol. Two individuals were arrested and remain in custody pending arraignment. The vehicle was also impounded.” NPS said in a statement.

NPS added that efforts to combat the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit substances will continue nationwide.

On the ongoing crackdown against illicit brews, police in Kakamega arrested 24 people on Saturday during an operation carried out within Kakamega Town, where they seized 84 litres of chang’aa.

The suspects, together with the exhibits, were taken to the station and will be arraigned in court on Monday, September 29, 2025.

NPS vowed to intensify the crackdown, warning members of the public against engaging in the trade and consumption of illegal brews.

Police further urged residents to support their efforts by providing timely information.

“We urge the public to continue supporting our operations by sharing timely information through the toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112,” NPS said.

The operation is part of a nationwide drive to stamp out illicit alcohol, which authorities warn poses serious health risks and fuels social and economic challenges in many communities.
